KABUL:  At least nine people were killed and 21 others were injured after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives in 14th street in Wazir Akbar Khan area inside Green Zone on late Tuesday night.

Local media reported that hospital officials confirmed that nine people were killed and 21 others were injured in suicide attack and the blast occurred near the Australian embassy in Kabul.

Security forces reached the spot immediately and rescue the victims of the blast and shifted them to hospital for medical treatment.

The Ministry of Defense has an office in 14th Street and it said that the explosion happened close to their building but they were not the target.

The suicide bomber reportedly entered the area through a park bordering the diplomatic zone and was able to penetrate the layers of security and gain access directly into the highly-fortified area that houses numerous embassies, some government offices, guesthouses and a few private companies.
