‘Over 9,000 rebels killed, injured in past 10 months’

KABUL: Over 6,000 militants, including the Taliban and Daesh, have been killed, more than 3,200 injured and 443 arrested during Commando Corps operations country-wide in the past 10 months, an official said on Monday.

Maj. Gen. Bismillah Waziri, commander of Commando Corps, told reporters here, 147 special operation and 487 planned operations in coordination with other military corps had been conducted during the period.

Without going into details Waziri said the casualties of commando forces had been far less than that of insurgents during the period.

He said the Commando Corps forces have purged rebels from the Achin, Kot and Nazyan districts of Nangarhar provinces in the past 10 months.

Waziri said the commando corps was better equipped now compared to the past. Over 2,500 weapons captured from militants had been destroyed and 300 more weapons had been confiscated by the commando forces.

Security official have defused over 2,800 landmines, destroyed 15 training centres, three prisons of militants and 350 bunkers used by the insurgents.

According to Waziri, the commando forces defused 500 kilograms of explosives and destroyed over 10,000 kilograms of drugs.

He said the Commando Corps has presence in 14 provinces of the country with four brigades, ten commando battalions, and four armored battalions.

They discharge their duties in accordance with security threats.
