KABUL: Eight armed opponents were killed and six more wounded in separate incidents in various parts of the country, officials said on Friday. The police ambushed Taliban gunmen in Shatorai and Khanjaki areas in the limits of Janikhel district, Paktika police spokesman Shah Muhammad Areen told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
Six Taliban fighters were killed and three more injured in the gunfight, he said. The police seized two weapons.
The Taliban have not said anything in this regard so far.
Separately, Logar police spokesman Shahpur Ahmadzai told AIP that seven Taliban fighters were killed and three more sustained injuries in an airstrike in Alozai area in Pule Alam city.
Some sources said over 20 Taliban fighters were killed in the blitz.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said civilians were targeted thrice in the airstrikes in Alozai area.
He, however, did not provide information about civilian casualties and presence of Taliban in the area.
Separately, three Taliban fighters identified as Hamidullah Bawar, Khalid and Rafiullah were killed while planting IEDs in Gardi Salao area in Alishang district of Laghman province, Muhammad Haroon Yousafzai, Afghan National Army 201 Sailab military corps public relations officer told AIP.
The Taliban have not confirmed or rejected the reports so far.
