KABUL: President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has instructed the security and defense officials to prepare security programs for the upcoming ceremonies of Ashura and Martyrs Week.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, in a statement said the meeting of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces was organized in ARG Presidential Palace on Thursday evening.
The sstatemetn further added that the security and defense officials presented their report regarding the recent attack on a Wresting Club in the vicinity of the 6th police district of the city.
The meeting reviewed the report and instructed the security and defense officials to prepare security programs to cover the security of Kabul city, particularly for the western parts of the city as well as all other provinces during the upcoming ceremonies of Ashura and Maryrs Week, ARG Palace said.
The statement by ARG Palace also added that the security and defense officials have been asked to present the programs to the presidential palace.
This comes as the anti-government armed militants, specifically the ISIS loyalists have stepped up attacks against the Shi’ite targets in West of Kabul city during the recent months. At least twenty six peope were killed and ninety one others were wounded in two back to back explosions in Dasht Barchi area in West of Kabul city on Wednesday evening.
AIP adds: President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani has said no hurdle would be tolerated in holding parliamentary elections on its schedule time.
In a written order to the Independent Election (IEC) the president directed the IEC officials to identify the people who were creating hurdles for parliamentary election or intending to conduct fraud in polls, informed sources told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
The president also directed the IEC commissioners to seriously investigate the issue of fake national identity cards and bring the culprits to justice. “The president very seriously warned the IEC that no hurdles would be tolerated in holding Wolesi Jirga polls and must conduct the election on Oct. 7,” sources in IEC said.
The sources continued that officials of NDS, interior and defense ministry have chalked out plan to arrest the people who have committed fraud in voter registration or registered fake identity cards.
Noor Wali Khpalwak, deputy spokesman of IEC confirmed that President’s letter to the IEC stressing on holding timely parliamentary elections.
He said the fake identity cards would be removed from the data once the population registration department share their report with the IEC.
Some political parties and civil society organizations have demanded that the Wolesi Jirga election should be delayed because the IEC cannot conduct transparent elections following the emergence of fake identity cards.
