Abdul Hafeez Shaikh appointed Economic Coordination Committee chairman

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Friday reconstituted the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and appointed his Advisor on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh as its chairman.

Cabinet Secretariat issued a series of notifications about the new composition of the ECC. According to the notifications, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh was also appointed head of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCoE) and the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation (CCoP).

As per new composition, the ECC will be comprised of 14 members; these include the ministers for communications, law and justice, maritime affairs, national food security and research, petroleum, power, planning, development and reform, privatisation, railways, poverty alleviation and social safety and water resources.

It will also include adviser to the prime minister on commerce, textile, industry, and production and investment and adviser to the prime minister on institutional reforms and austerity.

It is pertinent to mention here that the federal cabinet had saw major reshuffle, few days earlier, with the resignation of Asad Umar as finance minister and appointment of noted economist Hafeez Shaikh as Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance.
