ACCI donates 20m Afs to earthquake victims

KABUL (TOLOnews): The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) has provided more than 20 million Afs to the people affected by the recent earthquake in the southeastern provinces of Paktika and Khost.
According to the ACCI, the Afghanistan private sector has provided more than 150 million Afs in total.
“The Afghan traders have provided millions of Afs. Today’s aid was 13 million Afs,” said Mohammad Younus Momand, acting head of ACCI.
“Those chambers who have provided assistance–their names are available to us. I ask the board to prepare this list and hand it over to the emergency committee,” said Khan Jan Alikozai, a member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment.
The State Ministry of Natural Disaster Management asked the donors to send their aid to the affected people through this ministry.
“In order to rebuild the shelters of affected people, all Afghans should unite and ask the world for assistance so we can provide shelter for them,” said Sharafuddin Muslim, Deputy Minister of Natural Disaster Management.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization in a report expressed concerns over the bad situation of the earthquake-affected families in Paktika and Khost and said that currently nearly 800 people are living without shelter in these provinces.
“There are unconfirmed reports that between 700 and 800 families are living out in the open across three worst affected districts (Barmal, Giyan in Paktika province and Spera in Khost province) including 400 families in Barmal district alone. Families living in non-damaged and partially damaged buildings have also reportedly resorted to living out in the open out of fear,” the report reads.
Based on the data from the Ministry of Public Health, in the devestating earthquake in Paktika and Khost provinces more than 1,000 people were killed and nearly 5,000 houses were completely or partially destroyed.
