Accountability court adjourns hearing against Nawaz, family until November 7

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court on Friday adjourned the proceedings in corruption cases against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family as it had not received the Thursday’s order of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

On Thursday, the IHC had directed the accountability court to re-hear Nawaz’s plea seeking to club the three references against him and his family.

Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz arrived at the court after departing from the Punjab house to attend the hearing while his son-in-law MNA Safdar had also arrived at the court earlier.

Accountability court, Judge Mohammad Bashir adjourned the proceedings because the court was yet to receive a copy of IHC order on Thursday.

The court suspended the summons issued to two prosecution witnesses including Sidra Mansoor of SECP and Jahangir Khan of Inland Revenue Department. The Judge then adjourned the case until November 7.

The court will, thus, first decide Nawaz’s plea to club the references and then the regular proceedings of the case will move forward.

Nawaz also submitted in court surety bonds for the Flagship and Azizia Steel Mills references. He has already submitted bonds in the Avenfield properties reference.
