Accountability court issues bailable arrest warrants for Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD: The accountability court issued bailable arrest warrant for finance minister Ishaq Dar after he was failed to appear in court in the corruption reference.

The court ordered to appear in court at the next hearing on 2 November. The accountability court is hearing reference against Ishaq Dar which is filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for possessing assets beyond his declared source of income.

Khawaja Harris, counsel of Ishaq Dar pleaded court to grant his client exemption from today’s hearing as he is in London for medical tests and submitted the medical report of the accused and assured the court that he will appear before the court on next hearing.

However, the prosecutor opposed the request and demanded to issue a arrest warrants of finance minister and adding that the accused should have sought permission from court before leaving the country.

The court dismissed the Ishaq Dar exemption plea and issued bailable warrants for his arrest and also issued a notice to Dar’s guarantor and ordered to appear in court on 2 November.

Ishaq Dar finance minister and close associate of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif left the country for Tajikistan on Friday and then travelled to Jeddah where he fell ill and his medical tests will be performed today in London.

Nawaz was also in Jeddah over the weekend and is now in London to chair a high-level party huddle which will be attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Nawaz’s brother and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, among other government and party officials.
