Accountability court extends judicial remand of Aleem Khan till April 2

LAHORE: An accountability court has extended judicial remand Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Aleem Khan by 14 days, on Monday in a case pertaining to his offshore companies and possession of assets beyond his known sources of income.

During the last hearing on March 5, former senior minister of Punjan was sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in the assets beyond means case.

Aleem Khan was presented before the court today to seek an extension in his remand. During the hearing, the court asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor regarding when a reference will be filed against him. The court was informed that the process of filing the reference is in its final stages.

The court then ordered that Aleem be presented before court on April 2 and extended his judicial remand by 14 days.

On February 6, NAB had arrested Aleem 6 in cases pertaining to owning assets beyond his known sources of income and offshore companies. Soon after his arrest, Aleem resigned from the post of Punjab local government minister and sent his resignation to the provincial chief minister.

LAHORE: An accountability court will resume hearing of assets beyond means case against former the PTI leader Aleem Khan on Monday (today).

According to details, the former senior minister of Punjab will be brought to the court as his 15-day judicial remand expires today.

Earlier on March 5, the court had sent Aleem Khan to prison on 15-day judicial remand. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the PTI leader before Accountability Court Judge Syed Najamul Hassan amid tight security on completion of his physical remand and requested further extension for investigation.

During the hearing, Aleem Khan’s lawyer opposed NAB’s plea for remand extension and said there was no need to extend his client’s remand. He said he had already submitted relevant documents with regard to Aleem’s offshore companies and other assets to the bureau.

After hearing arguments of the defence and prosecution side, the judge rejected the bureau’s request for extension in the accused’s physical remand and sent him to prison on 15-day judicial remand.

The NAB prosecutor alleged the PTI leader was a common man in 2000 and suddenly became a millionaire as his assets now worth Rs 871 million. He remained Punjab minister from 2003 to 2007 and set up 35 companies, while his several bank accounts also surfaced.
