ADB okays $250m for Punjab, KP

ISLAMABAD (INP): Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a financial loan of $250 million. This financial aid aims to bolster the dependability of electricity delivery by augmenting and enhancing the power transmission infrastructure in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The sanctioned initiative, denoted as ADB’s Power Transmission Strengthening Project, seeks to fortify the stability of the national grid through an amplification of its transmission capacity. The project lies the expansion of the high-voltage transmission network, with a focus on the integration of 500 kilovolt (kV) and 220 kV transmission lines loops. Simultaneously, it endeavours to curtail transmission losses in the city of Lahore, Punjab, achieved through the replacement of old transmission lines.

Beyond its immediate objectives, the project aligns with ADB’s ongoing collaboration with the National Transmission & Despatch Company Limited (NTDC). The overarching goal remains to fortify energy security, foster climate resilience, and bolster transmission capacity to facilitate the deployment of sufficient, reliable, clean, and cost-effective energy.
