Advertisement campaign: CJP directs CM Shehbaz to deposit Rs 5.5 million in national exchequer

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday directed the Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif to deposit Rs 5.5 million in the national treasury which they spend on the massive advertisement campaign of Punjab government.

CJP Saqib Nisar while hearing the suo-moto case on Thursday, regarding the advertisements campaign carried out by by the governments of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab.

During the hearing the CJP inquired the Information Secretary Punjab about the money spent on an advertisement by the government and the officials informed the court that Rs 5.5 million was spend for the advertisement, bearing the picture of Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The advertisement was shown to the CJP in the courtroom.

The court showed displeasure over the massive payment and CJP remarked that such huge amount of money could be utilized for the purchase of medicines for the poor and deserving people of the province.

CJP Saqib Nisar directed the chief minister Shehbaz Sharif to deposit the amount Rs 5.5 million back in the national exchequer.

The apex court also issued notices to Punjab govt, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan had taken a suo-moto notice last month regarding media advertisements by provincial governments of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab.
