KABUL (Agencies): Sardar Ahmad Shakib, the Afghanistan Embassy’s Charge d’affaires in Pakistan met on Friday with Asif Ali Khan Durrani, Islamabad’s new special envoy for Afghanistan.
According to a tweet from the Afghan embassy in Islamabad, the meeting was held at the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.
The Afghan embassy said with the appointment of a new Pakistani representative, Durrani, the current issues between the two neighbouring countries will be resolved, and the bilateral relations would be improved. Durani was appointed as the new special envoy for Afghanistan after two and a half months after his predecessor stepped down.
He is a politician who served as Ambassador to Iran, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates.
His appointment comes as Pakistanis struggle to deal with complicated issues like growing security threats and attacks, many of which are carried out by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The Pakistani officials have repeatedly claimed that TTP leaders have safe heaven on Afghanistan soil and coordinate attacks on Pakistan. However, the Taliban authorities rejected such claims and said they would not allow any individual or group to use Afghan soil against neighbouring countries.
