Afghan clerics seek protection for mosques

KUNDUZ (TOLOnews): A number of religious scholars in Kunduz on Monday called on the Islamic Emirate to ensure the security of Shia mosques around the country.
This comes after a deadly suicide attack at a Shia mosque in Kunduz on Friday in which at least 50 people were killed and over 150 injured. The religious scholars said they are concerned about the security of people, especially their religious gatherings.
“We ask the Islamic Emirate to ensure the security of holy places and do not deceive the people. People are tired. We only want them to ensure our security… We just want this,” said Imam Razawi, a religious scholar.
Some Kunduz residents said that Friday attack was a big tragedy that brought suffering to dozens of families. “This is so painful to be martyred at the time of praying,” Sayed Abbas, a Kunduz resident, said.
Officials in Kunduz said security forces are trying to ensure the safety of the residents and prevent such incidents.
“We condemn the attack on Shia people in Khan Abad area in Kunduz, and we feel sorry for the grief of our compatriots. Efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators of the attack,” said Najibullah Haroon, head of security department of Kunduz.
Kunduz religious scholars said thay at least 120 worshipers were killed and 160 more were wounded in the attack.
