KABUL (Khaama Press): Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, the acting Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban in a meeting with UNAMA Chief Roza Otunbayeva has said the group believes in an “electoral system”.
During the meeting, Abdul Kabir said the Taliban “want to hold an election that is based on expertise and qualification” Bakhtar news agency reported.
Neither the news agency nor the United Nations Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA) has provided further details in this regard so far.
Certain senior Taliban members including the Minister of Information and Culture, and Anas Haqqani, the Interior Minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani’s brother attended the meeting.
Abdul Kabir reiterated the Taliban group has met every single requirement and should be recognized as the legitimate government of Afghanistan by the international community.
The Taliban senior leader speaks of fair and transparent elections as the group seized power using force and violence, and has no legal and international legitimacy.
Meanwhile, the Taliban-run administration has repeatedly asked people to show their allegiance to the group, obey the orders of the supreme leader, and accept the group’s system.
Following the overtake of Afghanistan, the Taliban dissolved all elected institutions, including election commissions, and took over the government using force.
Since their return to power in August 2021, the Taliban have dissolved National Assembly, including the parliament and senate house, provincial councils, State Ministry for Elections as well as Afghanistan’s Constitution.
The de facto regime has also revoked the license of political parties and denied women and girls basic rights to education, work and travel.
Abdul Karim Haidar, the Deputy Minister of Justice of Taliban last year said that Afghanistan does not need a constitution, and people’s problems will be solved based on “Hanafi jurisprudence”.
