Afghan led, owned peace talks key to success: VP

KABUL (Agencies): Five ambassadors of EU member countries such as Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Netherlands to Kabul called on Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh. In the meeting held, recent changes in region, Afghanistan peace process, modality of cooperation of Afghanistan international partners in peace process, elections and human rights related issues were discussed and reviewed.

In the meeting, recent changes in the region in particular recent tensions between US and Iran and its impacts on the region, Afghanistan and particularly the country’s peace process were assessed. Danesh by pointing to recent incidents praised EU for its stance for convincing both countries for patience and reduction of tensions in the region, saying that Afghanistan’s position was that both countries should work to reduce the ongoing tensions in the region.

He stressed that any unpleasant changes in the region would not only affect peace process but would have horrific consequences in various dimensions for far and near countries of the region.

He expressed happiness that the ongoing tensions were under control and reducing as by wisely decision of both US and Iran the increasing tensions have been prevented. In the meeting, ambassadors of the EU member countries by pointing to child abuse cases in Logar welcomed Afghanistan government for its position for implementation, reviewing and addressing the issue, saying that the government’s legal responsibilities were to address the case.
