Afghanistan faces major blackout risk due to COVID-19 outbreak

KABUL: Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the State-owned utility firm, has warned that the country is facing the risk of a blackout due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease.

According to a statement released by Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the outbreak of COVID-19 has affected the income of the firm and as a result it is unable to pay the nations which export electricity to Afghanistan.

The statement statement further added that Uzbekistan, one of the main suppliers of electricity to Afghanistan, has warned that it would cut the supply of electricity, if it’s payments are not processed on time.

Meanwhile, DABS urged the governmental and other consumers of electricity to pay their bills on time in a bid to prevent an halt in electricity supply to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior are among the major governmental institutions which the utility firm from the consumption of electricity power. (Khaama Press)
