KABUL (BNA): Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has formally signed an agreement with Tajikistan to secure electricity imports for the year 2025.
According to a statement issued by DABS, the agreement was finalized in Turkey during a meeting between Dr. Abdul Bari Omar, Chief Executive Officer of DABS, and Muhammad Omar Asa-Zada, Chairman of Tajikistan’s Barqi Tojik. This agreement reflects the ongoing collaboration between the two nations to ensure Afghanistan’s energy needs are met efficiently.
Afghanistan currently relies on electricity imports from neighboring countries, including Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran. However, officials have highlighted a growing interest from both domestic and international investors in the development of Afghanistan’s energy sector.
It was further emphasized that with stability and effective resource utilization, Afghanistan has the potential to transition from an electricity importer to a regional electricity exporter in the near future, leveraging the same transmission lines currently used for imports.
