Afghanistan seeks Int’l community’s close cooperation

KABUL: Afghanistan has sought international community’s close cooperation in fighting terrorism in this war ravaged country.

The demand was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil at “High-Level Conference on Countering Terrorism and Preventing Violent Extremism” which was held in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan, said a press release issued by Afghan foreign ministry here on Saturday.

The conference jointly hosted by Tajikistan, European Union and EU security and cooperation organization, was attended by representatives of 47 countries, international and regional organization.

Hekmat Khalil Kariza who led the Afghan delegation while speaking on the causes of terrorism, said lack of international consensus and cooperation, using terrorism as tool by certain countries, close links between mafia and terror networks were the main causes of the expansion of the menace of terrorism in the world.

Seeking international community’s close cooperation towards fighting terrorism, he stressed the need of accepting increased responsibility by the countries of the world.

Hekmat Khalil Karzai also met representatives of different countries and organizations on the sideline of the conference including Tajikistan’s president Imam Ali Ramanov.

He also met Tajikistan’s foreign minister Sirajudding Aslaf and insisted on promotion of relations between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

He said stressed the need for resumption of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries to strengthen relations.

The Afghan deputy foreign minister assured him Dr. Abdullah Abadullah’s  participation in conference on water issues to be held in Dushanbe next month.

The Tajik foreign minister said that security and stability in Afghanistan was the security and stability of Tajikistan and central Asia. He invited Karzai to Dushanbe for political consultations.

Khalil Karzai also met Uzbekistan foreign minister Abdul Aziz Kamelov and discussed with him a host off issues including bilateral trade, economy, borders, communication links and railway track.

He also meet US deputy secretary of state, EU foreign affairs department deputy chief, US deputy chief , Qatar foreign ministry’s representative  and discussed with them joint efforts against terrorism, peace and stability in Afghanistan.
