KABUL (TOLONews): Mohammad Halim Rafi, spokesperson for the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA), announced in a video message the estimated total population of Afghanistan for the Solar year 1404 as 36.4 million.
In the video clip, Rafi stated that, according to NSIA’s estimates for 1404, 51% of the population are male and 49% are female.
The NSIA also reported that the nomadic (Kuchi) population for this year is estimated at 1.5 million.
According to Rafi, Kabul is the most populous province in the country, with 6.1 million residents, including approximately 3.1 million men and 3.0 million women.
He further noted that Herat ranks second in population, with 2.3 million inhabitants.
Rafi added that, a short while ago, the Council of Ministers tasked the NSIA with preparing a plan for conducting an official national census.
The proposed plan has since been developed and approved by the Council, and the process for a nationwide census is expected to begin in the near future.
