Afghan’s President Ghani meets American special envoy for peace
KABUL: President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani met U.S. special envoy for Afghan peace process Zalmai Khalilzad at the Presidential Palace here on Sunday (November 11).
According to a presidential office press release available with Afghan Islamic Press (AIP), Zalmai Khalilzad said he would pay visits to some countries.
Khalilzad provided information to President Ghani about his upcoming visits to some countries as part of his efforts for the peace process owned and led by the Afghan people.
He said he would share information about his visits to the president after returning to Kabul.
President Ghani lauded the efforts of Khalilzad, saying they welcomed every step supporting the peace process led and owned by the Afghan people.
Zalmai Khalilzad is paying visits to countries of the region for the second time as part of his ongoing efforts to pave way for restoration of peace to Afghanistan. He visited various countries about a month ago. He met Taliban representatives in Qatar. It is believed that Pakistan released former Taliban second-in-commander Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar from the prison.
A conference on the conflict of Afghanistan was held in Moscow, capital of Russia on last Friday. Taliban representatives also attended the gathering.
In the conference, the Taliban said that they were currently in talks with the United States of America.
