Airstrike kills two in southern Libya

TRIPOLI: Two people were killed in an airstrike in southern Libya on Saturday, according to a local security official.

An unidentified plane struck a house east of Ubari town, the official said, requesting anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak to media. He said those killed in the attack were suspected al-Qaeda militants.

The official ruled out that the airstrike was carried out by a Libyan plane.

Saturday’s attack was the first airstrike to be launched in Ubari, which is under the control of the UN-backed unity government.

Libya has remained dogged by turmoil since 2011, when a bloody uprising ended with the ouster and death of President Muammar Gaddafi after more than four decades in power. (AA)
