AJK prepares to hold LB polls

MUZAFFARABAD: After repeated directions and show cause notices for contempt proceedings by the superior Judiciary, Azad Jammu and Kashmir government finally decided to hold local bodies elections in the region after almost 27 years for which preparations have been started.

“Delimitation process has been completed and voter lists would be used prepared for general elections in 2016 with additional entries of the people attaining age of 18 year by 31 th March this year,” said local bodies election commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Altaf addressing a joint press conference with Secretary election commission AJK Muhammad Younas here Monday at Chief Election Commissioner’s office. Altaf expected elections to be held by September or October this year, said 25% quota had been reserved each for women and youth in the local bodies however, he said there had been no quota reserved for minorities despite the registration of votes by them.
