MAZAR-I-SHARIF: A military court in northern Balkh province sentenced Afghan National Army soldiers to death over committing treason.
The 209th Shaheen Military Corps court besides announcing the death sentence also panelised Mohammad Ebrar for 400,000 Afghanis.
Prosecutor Shamsurrahman Ibrahimkhel told the judged that Ebrah handed over a check post and his 10 comrades to the Taliban back in 2016 in Sar-i-Pul province.
He added after deeply analysing and evaluating the case it was learned that Ebrar and other soldiers committed treason.
Ebrar, however, rejected the allegations and termed them baseless and untrue. He said the Taliban captured their post while they were on patrol. He added the Taliban fasten their hands and feet and took all the weapons and ammunition in the check posts.
Judged Sikanar Baig while announcing the court decision said Ebrar is penalised for Afghanis 400,000 for handing over the state weapons and ammunition to the Taliban and he is sentenced to death for handing over other soldiers. The judged added that the court decision was primary and could be challenged.
