F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan has submitted a privilege motion against Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman, citing disrespect shown towards the entire parliament.

While presenting the motion, Senator Aimal Wali informed the House about an incident that occurred during a Functional Committee meeting, stating that the PTA Chairman had insulted the entire Parliament. He demanded that action be taken on the privilege motion.

Aimal Wali added that standing committees had lost their significance and declared that he would no longer participate in any committee proceedings.

Leader of the House, Ishaq Dar, supported the motion, following which Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani referred the matter to the Privileges Committee.

On the other hand, in a clarifying statement, PTA Chairman Hafeezur Rehman expressed regret over the incident. He stated that he had neither used any unparliamentary language nor intended any disrespect.

Hafeez Ur Rehman noted that his conversation with the Senator had been in a light-hearted manner, and he had already apologised before the committee if anyone had been offended.

The PTA chairman affirmed that he holds the esteemed family of Senator Aimal Wali Khan in high regard and respects all members of the Senate sincerely.

He reiterated his commitment to upholding parliamentary decorum and stated that the campaign against him on social media and in political circles was the result of a misunderstanding.
