Anti-encroachment op: KDA razes illegal constructions in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar

KARACHI: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has demolished illegal constructions to retrieve public land allocated for parks during an operation conducted in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of Karachi.

Encroachments were removed from ST-2 and ST-3 strips located in Block 13 of densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, said KDA officials.

The officials said that illegal constructions were razed through heavy machinery during the latest operation.

Personnel of police and Rangers were also present on the location to control any untoward situation.

On March 19, authorities had resumed anti-encroachment operation in different parts of the metropolis after getting go-ahead by the Supreme Court (SC).

The Supreme Court (SC) had directed all the relevant authorities on February 26 to cooperate and continue the operation against encroachment in Karachi.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) authorities started removing encroachments in Karachi’s Liaquatabad and FC Area.

Around 10 shops have been demolished which were established illegal under a high tension line.

Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)’s anti-encroachment department and district administration had also removed trespasses for the second day in Liaquatabad and FC Area of the metropolis on March 20.

Illegal shops and factories established on footpaths and green belt have been razed by heavy machinery amid tight security.

On February 26, the Supreme Court (SC) had issued directives to the relevant authorities to cooperate and continue the operation against encroachment in Karachi.

During the hearing about removal of encroachment and reviving the metropolis, Karachi Registry of the apex court directed the Sindh chief secretary to supervise the anti-encroachment operation and ensure cooperation and consultation among relevant departments and organisations.

It ordered to remove all the encroachment from the city including from Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim.
