Anti-terrorism law won’t be used against ordinary citizens: CM Bugti

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday made it clear that the anti-terrorism law will not be slapped on ordinary citizens, saying such laws are meant for tackling terror incidents through special arrangements.

Speaking to the media, Bugti pointed out that in the area of Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman, laborers were brutally killed, adding that after a terrorist attack in France, the law there was changed overnight.

Recalling past events, he said that in 2016, lawyers were gunned down and the mastermind, Saeed Badini, was caught but not tried in time. “Ask the families who carried coffins about their pain,” he remarked, adding that no one dares to step forward as a witness against terrorism.

The chief minister stressed that the issue of missing persons must be solved once and for all. “Whenever someone is arrested, their family will be informed right away. We want to put the matter of missing persons to bed permanently,” he assured.

He went on to say that the entire nation has been bearing the brunt of terrorism. “Shouldn’t we take the lead in this war? Without the leadership of parliament, we cannot win this fight. Our manifesto is to stop terrorism in its tracks,” he added.

Bugti vowed that his government would never bow down before terrorists, no matter the odds.
