Apex court reserves verdict in Daniyal Aziz contempt case

F.P. Report

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict in the contempt case against Federal Privatisation Minister Daniyal Aziz after hearing the arguments from both sides.

Supreme Court on February had sent contempt of court notice to Daniyal Aziz for his controversial speeches and statements made during television shows.

In today’s hearing, prosecutor Rana Waqar claimed that statements and speeches of federal minister were openly attack on the justice system and judiciary should punish him according to the law.

He added that minister used the word scripted after Imran Khan acquittal and Jahangir Tareen’s disqualification by the supreme court and stated that the monitoring judge of the Supreme Court orchestrated the corruption references against Sharif family.

Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh remarked that Aziz was not indicted for criticizing court verdicts when the defense counsel argued that his client had only criticized court decisions and not the court itself.

Earlier on March 13, Daniyal Aziz was indicted on contempt charges by the Supreme Court.
