F.P. Report
ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Abbasi confessed on Wednesday that appointing a German CEO in Pakistan International Airline (PIA) was a great mistake. Speaking to a special committee of Senate, he maintained that Bernd Hildenbrand’s educational qualification was not even in aviation. Abbasi told that all the agreements with Hildenbrand have been ended, saving the PIA from major loss.
The adviser revealed that the German CEO sold PIA plane in 47,000 euro whereas the same plane was priced for the second time at 14 lac dollars. Abbasi told the committee that Hildenbrand was also going to sold six engines for which he had signed an agreement of Rs1,70,000 dollars.
A sub-committee formed pertaining to the performance of PIA also presented its report which recommended the completion of investigation while bringing the German CEO to Pakistan.
The committee while accepting the proposals directed to present the report in Senate. Bernd Hildenbrand was ousted in April last year after authorities launched a corruption investigation into leasing of planes from a Sri Lankan carrier.
