Ariana Airlines inducts Boeing 737 classic

Monitoring Desk

KABUL: Citing lack of financial resources, the state-run Ariana International Airlines (AIA) on Tuesday said it has purchased a 1998-made Boeing 737-500 aircraft and plans to buy two more.

The newly purchased aircraft, which is 20-year-old and used, has been inducted in the airline’s fleet and conducted its first flight from Kabul to Herat province Tuesday.

AIA chief Capt. Mohammad Nader Umar said the Boeing 737-500 plane was purchased from the LAM Mozambique Airlines against $20, 04,500.

He said the aircraft built in 1998 has the capacity to carry 115-113 passengers. He said the plane required a technical check, which Afghan technicians could perform well.

“The plan suits the Ariana flight operations from every point of view, and we have the experience of flying such planes,” he said. (Pajhwok)
