GHAZNI (TOLONews): The Directorate of Education in Ghazni says that currently, around 20,000 girls are studying in nearly 250 religious schools for girls, while another 23,000 girls are attending community-based classes in the province.
The department has reported that 950 community-based classes are currently active in Ghazni.
Mir Nasir Ahmad Hosseini, the Director of Education in Ghazni, told TOLOnews: “At present, nearly 250 religious schools are active in Ghazni, where about 20,000 girls are studying.”
Meanwhile, construction of a new girls’ religious school has recently begun in Khwaja Omari district, funded by the local community. This is the fifth girls’ religious school in the district, and construction is being supported financially by local residents.
The school requires an estimated two million Afghanis to complete, and once finished, it will provide a proper educational environment for 120 female students.
Matiullah Farooqi, head of education in Khwaja Omari district, said: “This is a 7.5-jerib plot of land donated by local villagers. The school building will include six classrooms, an administrative office, a water well, a storage room, a yard, and modern toilets.”
Residents of Ghazni have also called on relevant authorities to provide greater support and assistance to girls’ religious schools.
Asadullah, a resident of Ghazni, told TOLOnews: “In the past, education among women was low because there were no specific schools for them. Now that a school is being built here, we are all happy.”
Mohammad Azim, another resident of Ghazni, added: “Most newly established schools lack buildings. There are shortages of textbooks and educational materials in many schools and madrasas, and we want these problems to be resolved.”
This comes as the Ministry of Education stated last month that over the past nearly four years, buildings have been constructed for 1,100 schools and madrasas across the country.
