Asad Qaisar, Parvez Elahi discuss LG polls, politics

LAHORE (APP): National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar called on Punjab Assembly Speaker and Acting Governor Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and discussed with him national political situation, parliamentary affairs and matters of mutual interest at the Governor’s House, here on Thursday.
The upcoming local government (LG) elections and the Punjab Local Bodies Amendment Bill also came under discussion.
Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said that the LG institutions could play a vital role in solving problems at grass-roots level, faced by the public. Parvez Elahi said the bill envisaged giving maximum powers to the LG representatives, adding that it was important to empower the representatives so that benefits could be transferred to masses in the best possible way.
Asad Qaisar said the political representatives could provide relief to masses through effective legislation. “Maximum time is given to the parliamentarians in the House to discuss problems faced by the masses,” said the National Assembly speaker.
MNAs Junaid Akbar, Saleh Muhammad, Dr. Haider Ali and Secretary Punjab Assembly Muhammad Khan Bhatti were present during the meeting.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser met Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at CM Office on Thursday and discussed matters of mutual interest, political situation and the public welfare projects. They condemned opposition parties’ negative politics and resolved to face all their negative tactics.
CM Buzdar said that no confidence was also a tactic of the opposition to avoid their previous announcement of long march. He said the government was not afraid of any march, as the opposition had faced defeat at every occasion.
