Ashiq retains 57th National Amateur Golf Championship

PESHAWAR: Ashiq Hussain retained the title of the 57th National Amateur Golf Championship for the second consecutive years with his gross four over par 292 over 72 holes here at PAF Golf Course on Sunday.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra was the chief guest on this occasion. Lt. Gen Mian Muhammad Hilal, Air Vice Marshal Sarfaraz Khan, Air Officer Commander Northern Air Command and Senior Vice President KP Golf Association, Station Commander Peshawar and Vice President KP Golf Association Brig. Ghulam Hassan Joya, Joint Secretary Pakistan Golf Federation Ali Haider, former Pakistan team skipper Mehmood Aziz, international golfer Major Arshad Mehmood, officials, golfers and large number of spectators were also present.

Ashiq Hussain grabbed the title for the second consecutive years despite as poor show on the last day with his gross score six over par 78, 39 at front nine and the same at back nine with two double bogeys in the front nine and the same at back nine with three birdies.

Ashiq Hussain carded 73, 71, 70, 78 with an aggregated total of 292. He said closely followed by Ahmad Baig at the second with his gross score 296 over 72 holes. Ahmad Baig added 77 to his overnight score of 72, 73 and 73 with three birdies and two double bogies. He said at the run for title but he missed two key stroke at hole no. 15, 16 and 17 that is why he slipped to second from first. Ahmad finished a birdie putt at hole no. 18 which somehow managed his overall round by finishing at second.

Another leading golfer of Pakistan Ghazanfar Mehmood came from behind by taking third position with his gross score 297. A -1 HCP player Ghazanfar Mehmood added an excellent round of three under 69 with his overnight score 74, 79, 75 over 72 holes.

Pakistan team player Muhammad Rehman added 75 to his overnight 76, 76 and 73 to make an aggregated total of 300 while Khushal Khan also sharing the same place with Rehman with his aggregated total of 300. He carded 77, 74, 70, 79. Taimur Naseer got 6th position with his gross

Taimur Khan 74, 75, 74, 77 by making a total of 300 score over 72 holes.

In the 12 and below Kabir Ahmad got first position with his Net score 286, followed by Khalid Mehmood with 287 and Inayat Ullah Yousafzai 287.

In the Ladies Hamna Ahmad got first position with his Net 202 over 54 holes, followed by Remsha Ijaz with 204 and Sonia Osama with 206 and in the gross Hamna got first position with his gross score 223, followed by Remsha Ijaz with 225 and Parkha Ijaz with 232.

In the Senior Amateur Net Lt Col Waqar Ahmad got first position with his Net score 209, followed by

Major Shoaib Uddin 218 and Mansoor A. Khan 219 and in the gross Imran Ahmad got first position with his gross score 228, followed by Col Rushta Ali 231 and Lt. Col Ahmad 233.

In the Ladies Team event, the Punjab team comprising Suniya Osama, Remsha Ijaz and Parkha Ijaz got first position with their score 307, the KP team including Fareeda Naseer and Himna Amjad with their score 339 got second position.

In the National Inter-Provincial Championship Punjab team comprising Ashiq Hussain, Ahmad Baig, Muhammad Rehman and Muhammad Saqib scored 214, 218, 225 and 232 over 54 holes by making an aggregated total of 656 on three day rounds, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team including Inayat Ullah Yousafzai, Khushal Khan, Taimur Khan, Akbar Qayyum Bukhari with gross score 235, 221, 223, 236 over 54 holes respectively. KP scored a total of 674. Sindh is struggle with 698 when Zohaib Asif, Sajid Khan, Saim Shazli and Muhammad Sharif scored 232, 242, 231 and 238 while Balochistan with gross score 721 at fourth. Muhammad Ali, Zakir Hussain, Ishaq Ali and Muhammad Muslim Abbas score gross 252, 252, 242 and 233 respectively.

At the end, Governor KP Engr. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra gave away trophies and cash prizes to the position holders.
