Asif criticizes PCB for its double standards in selection

F.P. Report

Lahore: Test Cricketer Mohammad Asif criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday, for its double standards in selection and also regrets not being selected for Pakistan for the upcoming and challenging test series in England.

One of the main characters of the spot-fixing scandal in 2010 expressed his disappointment and took PCB and its selection committee under the radar while speaking to media during the final of an inter-university T10 tournament.

“PCB is playing a game of double standards by allowing only one player to play for Pakistan again and again and ignoring others.

The fast bowler was referring to Muhammad Amir who has not been dropped from the team since making a comeback to the international circuit in 2016, whereas Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt have been ignored despite giving wonderful performances in the domestic sphere.

Muhammad Asif had always been involved in many controversial incidents before the spot-fixing case and had always been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, whether it be drug issues or the controversy with Vina Malik, despite being a great performer he always struggled to handle his stardom off the field. Last month, the cricketer was deported from Dubai airport for failing to possess proper travelling documents.

Commenting on the Test series, Asif said it will be a difficult challenge for Pakistan cricket team as a team comprising T20I ‘specialists’ has been selected for Test series, which is a totally different format.

Asif has served his five-year ban after the spot-fixing scandal but is still yet to be selected for the national team.

One of the best exponents of swing bowling represents WAPDA in first-class cricket and was not picked for any franchise in the three seasons of Pakistan Super League.
