Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has published a cloured advertisement in print media, assuring smooth and all time supply of electricity to consumers across the province during Eidul Azha. The noteworthy feature of the advertisement is information about landline and cell phone numbers for the redressals of interruption in power supply and outages of longer duration.
It is no longer a secret that all grid stations that supply electricity to the consumers of Peshawar city and cantonment are confronted with issues of overloading and load imbalances. A sitting MPA of PTI, Haji Fazal Elahi has complained of 18-20 hours long load-shedding in his interview with a private TV Channel the other day. He has threatened to lead a protest rally to PESCO Headquarter. The deficiency of field staff always hinders the timely redressals of complaints. Whenever, the consumers bring these issue frequent tripping in the distribution system to the notice of PESCO high-ups, they are told to make a request for load enhancement of their areas. In other words collect millions of rupees from domestic consumers, pay it to the concerned PESCO Circle for installation of new feeders for load shifting. Is it not the responsibility of PESCO to ask for the required funds from federal government for the construction of new grid stations and upgradation of existing ones to address the burning issues of overloaded grids and their load imbalances? In President Musharraf era, government funds had been used for upgradation and expansion of electricity distribution system. Has the policy changed in present government?
