Avenfield reference: Nawaz, Maryam appear in accountability court

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have appeared before accountability court on Monday to face the corruption references.

Accountability court judge, Muhammad Bashir adjourned the hearing till the afternoon because Wajid Zia was not present in the court. The accountability court will also resume hearing of Al-Azizia case on Tuesday against the Sharif family.

Earlier, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz reached Islamabad from London in the wee hours of Monday after the court rejected their exemption from hearing pleas and directed to attend the proceedings.

Senior leaders and workers of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and workers were present at the airport to welcome Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz on their return.

On July 28 last year, Apex Court had disqualified Nawaz Sharif after announcing the historical Panama case verdict.

Sharif was also ousted from the presidency of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party, which elected close ally Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as prime minister after Sharif was disqualified.
