Ban imposed on cutting of trees in Abbotabad

ABBOTTABAD: District Administration Abbottabad has imposed section 144 imposed on chopping of trees for housing societies and cutting of hills in the district keeping in view of the unplanned housing societies which destroy the natural beauty and environment of the district.

According to a notification, the ban was imposed due to the negative impacts of cutting trees and to maintain the beauty of the area. Owing to the mushroom growth of housing societies and other developmental schemes in Salhad, Nailay Pair, Mangal and other areas situated at Karakoram Highway (KKH) people were chopping large number of trees and cutting the hills which is a serious threat to the environment and the scenic beauty of Abbottabad.

DC Abbottabad while taking the notice of unplanned housing society activities imposed a ban under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Governance Act 2017 and Environmental Protection Act 2014 for axing the trees and cutting of hills in district Abbottabad. According to the notification, concerned authorities would only allow those housing societies that would comply with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mineral Governance Act 2017 and Environmental Protection Act 2014 and also follow the provincial government.

District administration Abbottabad is committed to restore the natural beauty of Abbottabad and make it clean and green to stamp out the impact of construction work and developmental schemes.
