Baradar heading broad emergency response efforts

KABUL (Tolo News): The Islamic Emirate-led government is completely prepared to offer assistance to people affected by the recent natural disasters across Afghanistan, the deputy spokesman for the government said.
Bilal Karimi said the first deputy PM, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, who is in charge of a special commission for disaster management, has directed all related offices to proceed with providing assistance to affected citizens. This comes as many families are suffering from recent heavy snowfall and flooding at least nine people have died and over 30 have been injured as a result of avalanches and flooding in the provinces.
“Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar ordered the commission to help and serve the people affected in the provinces in a good maner,” Bilal Karimi told TOLOnews. The residents in southern of Afghanistan, where floods inflicted heavy losses on the people, called on the government to urgently address their problems. Recent flooding damaged houses, bridges and fields in the south of Afghanistan.
“After the past rains, the flood destroyed all the houses and land. Nothing is left for us,” said Sher Mohammad, resident in Helmand. “No one has heard our voices yet, we ask the government to assist us,” said Sayed Rasool, another resident.
In the meantime, officials at the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said groups have left Kabul to survey damaged areas in the provinces. The commission held its first meeting and members decided to provide urgent assistance to affected people. More than 30 provinces witnessed heavy snowing in the past three days.
