F.P. Report
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench suspended a decision by the Accountability Court, granting significant relief to former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
Hearing a writ petition filed on behalf of Elahi, the court also issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and granted an exemption from personal appearance in the NAB Court until further orders.
Elahi’s legal team, comprising Advocate Sardar Abdul Razzaq Khan and Aamir Saeed Raan, appeared before a division bench consisting of Justice Shahram Sarwar and Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel argued that Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is a senior politician currently undergoing medical treatment in Lahore due to ill health.
The lawyer contended that the Accountability Court had unlawfully dismissed Elahi’s plea for exemption from personal appearance.
Justice Shahram Sarwar questioned the NAB prosecutor about the bureau’s objections to granting an exemption, to which the prosecutor responded that Elahi’s medical condition did not justify an exemption from appearing in person before the trial court.
The court, however, deemed the objection insufficient at this stage and proceeded to suspend the trial court’s order, offering temporary relief to the petitioner.
