Bill regarding salaries increase of PA members being reviewed: CM

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said that the bill of increasing salaries of Punjab Assembly members was being reviewed by analyzing its legal and technical aspects.

He was talking to the media after planting saplings in connection with the Clean & Green Pakistan campaign and World Forest Day at Changa Manga Forest Park. The CM said that necessary amendments were being made inthe salary bill and it would be made public as the decision was made on it. He said that the performance of provincial ministers and bureaucracy was being monitored to ensure good governance. The chief minister said that 800,000 saplings of different kinds had been planted in the province in connection with the World Forest Day.

During the current spring season, around 150 million saplings will be planted which would also help in overcoming smog and environmental pollution. In line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan will be made a clean and green country, the CM said. He said that 200 acres land of Changa Manga forest had been recovered during the campaign against encroachments and saplings will be planted on this land. Usman Buzdar said that animals and birds were beauty of nature and protection of wildlife was a collective responsibility of everyone. The wildlife park of Changa Manga would be restored to its original shape and a comprehensive strategy will be adopted to protect the wildlife across the province. Indiscriminate action would be initiated against elements involved in illegal hunting and sale and purchase of birds and animals, he added.

Earlier, the chief minister was also briefed about the silkworm breeding and promotion of silk industry. He observed that a great potential of silk producing industry existed in Punjab especially in Changa Manga.

Poverty could be alleviated by promoting this industry at the grassroots and new employment opportunities could also be generated through it, he added.

A comprehensive business plan was being reviewed to promote the silk production industry and the government will also provide necessary assistance in this regard, he said.

He also inspected the procedure of silkworm production facility at the forest park. Hog deer and crested eagle were also released to promote the wildlife. Advisor to the Prime Minister for Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam, Provincial Minister for Forests Muhammad Sibtain Khan, Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Hashim Dogar, Member National Assembly Talib Nakai, Spokesman to CM Shahbaz Gill, elected representatives and others were also present.

Meanwhile, A delegation of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) led by its Chairman   Muhammad Saleem along with Executive Member Ashfaq Jumani called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar. The Chairman presented PEMRA’s Performance Report for the FY 2015-18 to the Chief Minister.

During the meeting, the Chairman PEMRA discussed various issues related to electronic media industry in Pakistan and expressed his full resort to play constructive role to address all issues in coordination with Punjab Government.

The Chairman acknowledged the efforts of the Punjab Government in ensuring a conducive environment for electronic media in Punjab and steps taken for the betterment of media industry. The Chairman extended his indebtedness to Chief Minister for cooperation of Punjab Government with the Authority in implementation of regulatory affairs. The Chief Minister Punjab urged that PEMRA should play an active role in discouraging fake news.
