Bilour terms BRT project as a source of mental stress

PESHAWAR: Parliamentary leader of Awami National Party (ANP) in Upper House of Parliament and prominent businessman from KP, Senator Ilyas Ahjmad Bilour has termed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as a source of sever mental stress and permanent difficulty for dwellers of Peshawar. In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, Senator Ilyas Bilour said the contractor of the project, in his lust for commission, has turned the `city of flowers’ into city of dust.

“Due to ill-planning of KP government and slow pace of construction has created a serious traffic mess in the provincial metropolis, making life miserable for city dwellers,” Bilour added.

The recent rain which caused accumulation of water further aggravated the distress, he went on to say. Bilour claimed that the mega BRT project has been launched without preparation of its feasibility and PC:1, as well. During the last four months when the project was launched, the whole Peshawar city starting from Chamkani to Hayatabad has been turned into ditches, giving a look of ruins, he continued. “There is no place where digging is not carried out for getting commission,” Bilour alleged.

He said all the population of provincial metropolis including students, businessmen, women and elderly persons are facing sever difficulties due to launching of this ill-planned project.

He said the Chief Minister KP had performed inauguration of zoo in Peshawar on Monday, but infact he has made the whole Peshawar city as a `zoo’.

He said due to accumulation of rain water especially at the sites where digging is made for BRT project, vehicles are badly damaged due to inundation in muddy water. This senseless government and its representatives have no concern with difficulties being faced by people who have to face these sever traffic mess on daily basis while going to their work places and educational institutions.

Ilyas Bilour said whole leadership of PTI makes fake claims as there is complete contrast in their statements and acts. He also requested Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Peshawar High Court and Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), to take notice of irregularities in BRT project and issue directives for early completion of this project which has made life of Peshawarites miserable.
