KARACHI: Body of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) leader Professor Dr Hasan Zafar Arif was recovered from a car’s back seat in Karachi’s Ibrahim Hyderi area Sunday.

He was a resident of DHA Phase VI. The elderly retired professor’s identity card was found with the body, which was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center.

Executive Director Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) Seemi Jamali informed media that the professor’s body was brought to the hospital’s emergency department where doctors pronounced him dead already. However, she said it would be too early to state the cause of death.

“The ultimate cause of death will be examined in light of post-mortem report. The body does not bear any marks of torture or bullet wounds,” she informed our reporter.

Dr Arif was a former professor at Philosophy Department in University of Karachi (UoK).

Police have confirmed the identity of body as 70-year-old Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) leader Dr Hasan Zafar Arif. No marks of torture are present on the body which means that the death could be natural.

According to ASI Amir Husain, police found the body on the back seat of the car. They had acted upon information about the body. They said that investigation from Hassan’s relatives has also been launched.

Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Sattar of MQM-Pakistan has also confirmed that the body was of Prof Zafar Arif. “He has been murdered and we stand with the family of the deceased professor,” said Dr Sattar while speaking to the media. He said that his murder is a conspiracy to upset the law and order of Karachi.

The officers have also started monitoring from CCTV footage to unearth the reality while they said that MQM leader went missing last day.
