MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji has revealed she was ‘swapped’ with another child in hospital after giving birth and was later found with a Punjabi couple.

Famous Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji, daughter of filmmaker Ram Mukerji and his wife Krishna, once spoke about ‘swapping’ a Punjabi couple’s baby in a hospital after birth, and her mother was recognized by ‘Brown eyes’.

“When I was born, I was stuck in a Punjabi couple’s room. So my mother went and brought me from there,” Rani told the interviewer.

“It’s actually an interesting story that I was transferred to the hospital. My mother looked at the other baby girl and said, ‘This is not my daughter. She doesn’t have brown eyes. My daughter has brown eyes. Go and find out my child.”

The actor further said that her mother found her in a Punjabi family that had a daughter for the eighth time.

“I was there. They still joke that you’re actually Punjabi. My mistake is that you ended up in our family.”

In one of the first interviews, Rani referred to the ‘Punjabi influence’ in her family and said that she could ‘marry a Punjabi man’.

Rani later married filmmaker Aditya Chopra in 2014, who is Punjabi. The couple welcomed their only daughter, Adira, the following year.

Meanwhile, on her birthday, Rani opened up about her journey so far and said, “It has been an exhilarating journey in cinema so far for me and I hope that it remains the same in the years to come. I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with some of the best minds in the form of directors, producers, actors and technicians who have pushed me to excel on-screen and reinvent myself every single time.”

She added, “I want to continue doing that with every project because I always want to push my boundaries to see where I land. I always knew that my journey will be tough but I sailed through the last 25 years with the audience’s love by my side and my hard work and perseverance.”
