British Ambassador Lucia Wilde gets accredited to Turkmenistan

F.P. Report

LONDON: Newly arrived British Ambassador Ms Lucia Wilde presented her letter of credential to His Excellency the President of Turkmenistan, Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

On 11 January 2022, I was delighted to present the letter of credence from Her Majesty the Queen to His Excellency the President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov for my accreditation as the new British Ambassador to Turkmenistan. We had a warm and positive discussion, noting the important milestone in 2022 of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries. I congratulated His Excellency on 30 years of independence.

We discussed deepening our cooperation on climate change, trade, education, health protection and on matters of international and regional importance. We also touched on our shared family interests in cycling, dogs and horses. I was proud to be able to present to His Excellency a traditional porcelain gift from my mother’s home town of Stoke-on-Trent and a book about Her Majesty’s horses in this, her Platinum Jubilee Year. I was delighted to be gifted a beautiful Turkmen carpet by His Excellency.

I look forward to getting to know the people and places of Turkmenistan and to strengthening our UK-Turkmenistan relationship.
