PESHAWAR: Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus service Wednesday temporarily suspended to review the service and fix buses fire catching issues.
According to Spokesman Muhammad Umair Trans Peshawar the decision was taken in the wider interest of citizens and travelers. He said that passengers’ safety is the company’s top priority.
He said that the bus company team will inspect all the buses in detail. He added that the cause of the fire in two BRT buses is under investigation.
He said further, all buses will be comprehensively inspected adding that each BRT bus will be technically restored after complete clearance.
In an another statement, the spokesman said that minor spark in the BRT test bus at BRT Feeder Route Hayatabad has been brought under control.
He said that alll BRT bus drivers have been trained in dealing with emergencies. He added that all BRT buses are equipped with exceptional emergency equipment.
Bus manufacturer company additional team also reached Peshawar, he added.
Earlier, a BRT bus plying on a feeder route at Hayatabad Township near Itwar Bazar in Phase 2 caught fire here on Wednesday.
The blaze was minor and forthwith doused by firefighters besides ensuring safety of the passengers, says Rescue 1122 spokesman in a statement issued here.
Staffers and fire fighters of Rescue 1122 forthwith rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
All the passengers are safe who were evacuated from the bus immediately. It merits a mention here that it is sixth incident of fire in BRT buses since launching of the service in last month of August 2020.
