Bus falls into ravine killing 27 children

NEW DELHI: At least 30 people, including 27 children, were killed in northern India on Monday when a school bus fell into a ravine, police said.

The accident took place in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, 460 kilometres (285.83 miles) from capital New Delhi, when the bus carrying 45 students skidded of the road and fell into a 100-foot deep ravine, broadcaster CNN-News18 reported.

The accident killed two teachers and the driver.

Rescue and emergency officials have reached the spot, local media reported.

Superintendent of Police Santosh Patial confirmed the death toll.

“Our first priority is to help the injured and save lives,” he said, speaking to Anadolu Agency. (AA)
