Campaign launched against encroachments

KOHAT: The district administration has launched a comprehensive anti-encroachment campaign in the district and demolished several illegal structures at different places of the city.

The anti-encroachment force equipped with heavy machinery was conducting anti-encroachment operations in presence of law enforcement personnel in the city. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Revenue Tahir Ali was supervising the drive in which anti encroachment squad removed encroachment of various natures in main bazaar.

The district administration had served prior notices to shopkeepers, giving three days deadline but they paid no heed and the encroachments continued to persist at different places. As a result, the campaign was launched and removed illegal structures erected on government land.

Additional commissioner revenue said that the anti-encroachment campaign was launched without any discrimination and being monitored, thoroughly. He said no one would be allowed to take law into his or her own hands by encroaching upon the government land, adding the campaign would be pursed as per prescribed laws.

He said during drive and the city roads, footpaths and open spaces would be cleared of encroachments, which would also be a solution of city traffic problem. He was of the view it was the duty of the citizens to extend full cooperation to the administration in expanding all roads and bazaars as per the original plan in order to facilitate them.

The administration was also taking stringent measures to ensure quality edible items at affordable prices to citizens and imposed fines on shopkeepers for overcharging or violating hygiene standards. The concerned staff regularly visits markets to check prices of commodities to ensure that citizens get daily use commodities at prescribed prices.
