Indian actor Ayesha Takia’s Muslim husband gets death threats for marrying a ‘Hindu girl’

Bollywood actor and restaurateur Ayesha Takia’s husband Farhan Azmi filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police on July 26 for having received death threats from a political outfit over a phone call earlier this month, Indian media reported.

Azmi, a hotelier, is the son of Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, who has featured in headlines for making several controversial statements. Farhan Azmi’s complaint states the political party titled Hindu Sena, which operates out of Rajasthan, threatened him for allegedly having indulged in “love jihad”. “You all are animals. Have you forgotten that you have indulged in Love Jihad by marrying a Hindu girl?” the unidentified caller reportedly told the actress’ husband.

Ayesha has been married to Farhan Azmi since 2009 and the couple are parents to a son named Mikail.

“The aggressor, in no uncertain terms, extended death threats to the undersigned and his family…” read the report.

According to the complaint, the threat call on behalf of the Rajasthan Hindu Sena was primarily targeted at Ayesha’s politician father-in-law – the political outfit is reportedly offended by Abu Azmi’s comments about singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s stance on azaan or the morning call to prayer.

Later, the senior politician told a news channel that only those who attempt to taint the culture of India, protest against the holy morning call to prayer.

“Ask your father Abu Azmi to stop shouting like an animal else he will be bumped off. Also tell the son of Owaisi that he too will not be spared,” Farhan Azmi was reportedly told.

Ayesha has been known to publicly distance herself from the controversial remarks made by her father-in-law. Earlier this year, she told mid-day that it’s okay to have a “difference in mindset”: “When people are in the public eye, they are questioned for their choice of words. A difference in mind-set and generation gap is the issue. There is a difference of opinion [between me and my father-in-law], which is fine. As a celebrity, I take it in my stride that I am expected to harbour an opinion even on something I didn’t say,” mid-day quoted her as saying.

Ayesha Takia was last seen in Amit Mishra’s single Zindagi Tujhse Kya Karen Shikvey. She is best known for films like Dor, Dil Maange Mor, Socha Na Tha and Home Delivery.

I have not shot any scene which has been changed in Padhmavati says Shahid Kapoor

F.P. Report

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor says his upcoming film Padmavati, marred by controversies, is made with a good intent. Shahid, who won the Big Zee Entertainment Award for the best actor for Udta Punjab on Saturday, spoke to the media on the sidelines of the event.

Talking about the controversies surrounding the historical drama, whose shooting was disrupted for showing a romantic angle between Rajput Queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, Shahid said: “According to me, I have not shot any scene which has been changed. I think there were a lot of presumptions about the film, and people were presuming about the scenes.” “The clarification has been given that no such scene is there in the film. I hope when people see this film, they will realize that the heart of the film and intent of the film is very good,” he said.

“This country and the people who live in it, and especially the area we are talking about in the film, will be glorified. I play a Rajput king and my character, I feel, will be admired by people.” Padmavati is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and Shahid is happy about collaborating with him for the first time.

“It’s a very big film, very intense, romantic and looked forward to filming for various reasons. I think it’s a labor of love for Mr. Bhansali. I had gone mad on Twitter after watching his last film (Bajirao Mastani), appreciating everyone, and never knew that I will be part of his (Bhansali’s) next film,” Shahid said.

“So, it’s awesome to be working with someone whose work I have admired in the recent past. The film (Padmavati) has a great cast and going to be a huge film. I am really excited, but I want to underplay it, so I am trying to do that right now,” said the Haider actor. Padmavati also stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Aditi Rao Hydari in key roles.

Angelina Jolie puts movies aside for cooking

LOS ANGELES (AFP): Angelina Jolie has put movie-making on hold to become a better mom, take cooking classes and do ordinary tasks like picking up dog poop.

In an interview with Vanity Fair released on Wednesday, the actress said life after splitting in September from husband Brad Pitt was focused on looking after her health and her children.

“I actually feel more of a woman because I feel like I’m being smart about my choices, and I’m putting my family first, and I’m in charge of my life and my health. I think that’s what makes a woman complete,” Jolie said.

Her latest film as a director, “First They Killed My Father,” about the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, under which more than 1 million people died, had its premiere in Cambodia in February. It is due to be released globally and on Netflix in September.

Apart from promoting the film, Jolie said she had no interest in working on another movie right now. She has primary custody of her six children with Pitt pending a final settlement of their divorce.

“I’m just wanting to make the proper breakfast and keep the house,” she told Vanity Fair.

“That’s my passion. At the request of my kids, I’m taking cooking classes. As I go to sleep at night, I think, ‘Did I do a great job as a mom or was that an average day?'”

“I’ve been trying for nine months to be really good at just being a homemaker and picking up dog poop and cleaning dishes and reading bedtime stories,” she said. “And I’m getting better at all three.”

Jolie, 42, a special envoy for the United Nations refugee agency, said the children had been “very brave” since the split from Pitt.

“They’re six very strong-minded, thoughtful, worldly individuals. I’m very proud of them. They’ve been very brave. They were very brave,” she said.

Jolie revealed that she had developed hypertension, and Bell’s Palsy – a weakness in facial muscles that can cause one side of the face to droop slightly – since the separation from Pitt, but had recovered thanks to acupuncture.

Jolie’s interview appears in the September issue of Vanity Fair, out on newsstands on Aug. 8.

Actor Jason Bateman gets Hollywood star

Emmy-nominated actor Jason Bateman was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, 30 years after breaking into the movies in “Teen Wolf Too.”

“Friends” star Jennifer Aniston, who appeared in five films with Bateman, and Will Arnett, his cast mate on television’s “Arrested Development,” gave speeches paying tribute to his staying power.

“I just simply feel very, very grateful and fortunate to have had a chance to hold my job in a business that’s not known for its longevity,” said the 48-year-old actor.

He added that he felt lucky “being able to work with enough good people to not only learn an enormous amount, but to find in them some friends that have changed the way I see the world.”

Bateman received Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Michael Bluth in “Arrested Development” in 2005, when it aired on Fox, and 2013, when it was streamed on Netflix.

The actor can currently be seen in Netflix’s “Ozark” as a financial planner who relocates from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Missouri Ozarks and has to pay off a Mexican drug lord.

The father-of-two made his television debut at the age of 12 with a recurring role on the NBC period family drama “Little House on the Prairie.”

He appeared in the NBC comedies “Silver Spoons” and “It’s Your Move” in the early to mid-1980s before transforming into a teen idol through his role on another of the network’s sit-coms, “The Hogan Family.”

Bateman starred with Aniston in “Horrible Bosses (2011) and its 2014 sequel as well as 2010 romantic comedy “The Switch.”

They also appeared together in “The Break-Up” (2006) and, ten years later, “Office Christmas Party.”

“Having longevity in this business is not easy, especially starting out as a child actor,” said Aniston, 48, who brought out pictures of Bateman as a young star. “Usually that’s a story that doesn’t always end well. When I actually met Jason it was kind of looking like it could go either way.”

But Aniston went on to describe him as a “fantastic partner in crime,” “the most generous straight man” and a “dear friend.” “He is the loveliest man to be around. He always gives you deep connection, full attention, authenticity and some of the deepest belly laughs I can remember,” she said.

Shazia Manzoor makes music comeback

LAHORE (Monitoring Desk): Lollywood playback singer Shazia Manzoor is back to the entertainment circuit following an extended hiatus. With preparations to release her first music album in eight years, it’s no surprise that the veteran artist has locked in Eidul Azha as the release date. Speaking with the private channel, the Raatan Kaaliyan crooner shed light as to why she felt it was the right time to make a comeback to the music industry.

While yesteryear singers such as Shabnam Majeed have often voiced their displeasure at the quality of music being churned out nowadays, Manzoor feels otherwise. “I am impressed with the kind of music being released today. Young and talented artists have entered this profession are doing great work. Their future will definitely be bright,” she said. “I am also recording songs for a few films that I will disclose later.”

During her career break, Manzoor composed songs for the 2013 film Ishq Khuda. She feels her new album will be a worthy addition to the music industry and has no qualms in admitting that her work has always been praised by her fans. “I have prepared a lot for my upcoming record which comprises eight songs and I shot the music videos in London. I am satisfied that whatever I have sung in the past has been enough for true music lovers and it is an absolute honour that people still listen to my songs.”

When asked as to why she went off the radar for so long, Manzoor revealed, “I have always made songs according to the interest of the public. While I was at the peak of my career, the trend of cassettes and album CDs started fading away and this discouraged me from producing more work. Whenever I release a track, I always put my heart and soul into it. So I didn’t want to be disappointed if I didn’t get the response I have received in the past.”

Having lent her vocals to around 200 Punjabi and Urdu films, Manzoor has 1000 songs to her credit. Brought to the limelight by Umar Shareef in 1992, she released music albums including Chan Mere Makhna, Hai Dil Jaani, Ishq Sohna and Tu Badal Gaya Sajna, and swiftly made a name for herself in India as well.

“I have performed in several countries and there has always been a hugely positive response. International audiences love listening to folk and classical singers,” she shared, concluding, “Our music history has been wonderful and we shall continue to strive to be on the top.”
