Prime Minister Imran Khan has chaired the meeting of Council of Common Interest to discuss various items on the agenda and take decisions on them. It has been reported in print media that Khyber Pukhtunkhwa government would table its demand for payment of royalty on the production of crude oil. Over the years, the province has been producing 50,000 barrels of crude oil per day and is entitled to get oil royalty of Rs.18.25 billion per year.
On the contrary, in the last PML-N government Petroleum Division torpedoed the efforts of previous PTI provincial government for setting up a state-of-the-art oil refinery near the oil fields of the province. The situation has not changed for the better even in the present government on this project of national importance.
Currently, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa is getting royalty on gas production and the fate of future payments of net hydel profits is hanging in the balance. If the province does not get the payments of oil royalty and hydel profits, implementation of projects of people’s uplift will be delayed.
