LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker and Acting Governor Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday urged the opposition parties to play their role for strengthening democracy in the country and serving the poor.
Talking to a former member of Punjab Assembly (MPA), ticket holders and independent candidates, who met with him and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid Secretary General (Punjab) Senator Kamil Ali Agha in Lahore, and announced their decision to join the party, Elahi opined that the country could not afford a political crisis at this point in time.
ìEach and every individual will have to play his and her part for providing relief to the masses,î he said, adding he and other leaders of the PML-Q had their eyes on the current political situation in the country.
Right now, the political landscape is murky. And when that landscape becomes clear, our strategy will become clear too,î he said, and added, ìFor the PML-Q, the countryís and peopleís interests are of paramount importance. The party has always raised voice for the resolution of the issues confronting the masses. Chaudhry Pervaiz stressed the need for solving peopleís problems first. ìIf people are prosperous, the country is prosperous,î the PA speaker commented.
Earlier, Sheikh Yaqub, a former MPA from Jhang, Begum Rashida Yaqub, Haji Riaz Jatt from Gujranwala, Abdul Qadeer Awan, independent candidate for PP-118, Khalid Warraich (independent candidate for NA-111, Bilal Asghar Warraich and others announced their decision to join the party. Khawaja Waqar and Sidra Jaffery were also present on the occasion.
