Chairman Senate threatens to resign on disagreement over constitutional amendment

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate, Raza Rabbani has showed displeasure over the re-voting on an amendment to Article 60 of the constitution.

As per details, Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid requested the Senate chairman to allow him to move a motion on re-voting on Article 60.

Rabbani said in a reply that he cannot give his permission over the matter as the voting has already been done on the matter.

Meanwhile Farooq H Naik of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supported Law minister request on the matter.

In a response the angry Rabbani left for his chamber and threatening to resign from his position and handed over the proceeding to the Deputy Chairman Senate, Mualana Ghafoor Haideri.

Senators from the opposition and treasury benches, including Zahid Hamid, Ghafoor Haideri and Aitzaz Ahsan, went to Rabbani’s chamber and urged him to take back his decision.
